CFE’s history dates back to 1899, not only through the three legacy cooperatives, but also the cooperatives that preceded them. Through this rich history of serving the territory, it is with great pleasure and honor that CFE celebrates 125 years of cooperative history.

There are three main cooperatives: Cooperative Elevators Association (CEA), Farmers Elevator Cooperative (FEC) and United Farmers Cooperative (UFC). However, each of these cooperatives underwent many mergers, buy-outs and acquisitions in their rich histories which will be displayed in the 125th book.

FEC was made up of Rock Valley, Doon, Alvord, Hudson, Hawarden, Rock Rapids, Lester, Larchwood and Inwood.

CEA included Harris, Hartley, Lake Park, Sibley, Okoboji and Ocheyedan.

UFC included locations of Allendorf, Ashton, and George in Iowa. UFC also brought Bigelow and Rushmore location in Minnesota.

Milford, Spirit Lake, Germantown and Marcus locations were all acquired or purchased after CFE was created in 2015.

CFE will be hosting a come-and-go anniversary event on Saturday, June 29 from 1:00-10:00 pm at the Lyon County Fairgrounds in Rock Rapids, IA. The event will feature live music, activities for every age and an appreciation meal.

We will also be collecting the history and stories of CFE, and creating a memento book that beautifully displays them. The book will be available at the 2024 annual meeting.
